Abstract
Ankylosing spondylitis is characterized by fibrosis, calcification and progressive ossification of the spinal ligaments and capsules between articular facets leading to bony ankylosis and kyphotic deformity. Smith-Peterson introduced one stage osteotomy for correction of flexion deformity and La Chapelle reported two stage operation in 1946. The object of spinal osteotomy is to provide a compensatory lumbar lordosis and therefore to improve function of thoracic and abdominal structures.
This report is to present a case of the one stage spinal osteotomy for Ankylosing Spondylitis.
